Ocupação do Centro Paula de Souza, em São Paulo

São Paulo - Police stormed a school that has been occupied by students in a sit-in protest since Thursday Rovena Rosa/Agência Brasil

Military police have stormed Centro Paula Souza, a vocational school that has been occupied by students in a sit-in protest since Thursday (Apr. 28), to allow staff to enter the building. Yesterday evening (May 1st), a court in São Paulo granted an injunction to reclaim the property, which houses the office in charge of vocational education throughout the state.

Students are protesting against school lunch shortages and a graft scandal over school meal procurement. The schoolchildren refuse to leave the building. Several of them sat on the floor and shouted watchwords against the police operation.

Police have searched the building and removed the students from upper floors. But the sit-in goes on at the entrance hall, opposite a squad armed with shields and batons.

The police operation is being monitored by Alexandre Moraes, the State Public Security Secretary.
