Starts today (17) and continues until Sunday (23) the 19th National Science and Technology Week (SNCT). In the 2022 edition, the event's theme is "Bicentennial of Independence: 200 years of science, technology and innovation in Brazil.

The event has taken place since 2004, promoting free activities throughout the country, open to the community in both face-to-face and online formats. The theme proposed for the 2022 edition seeks a reflection "on the historical process of Brazil's Independence in the construction and development of the Brazilian nation".

Promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI), the 19th edition has, among its objectives, to divulge and popularize science, in order to stimulate scientific curiosity and the "inquiring character and critical thinking of citizens".

It also seeks to disseminate and socialize scientific knowledge, "not only from studies and academic research, but also from the knowledge and know-how of traditional peoples and communities"; to stimulate the free circulation and appropriation of knowledge in all layers of Brazilian society, especially the socially vulnerable ones.

The organizers seek, with the series of scheduled events, to value scientific-cultural events and actions for the dissemination and popularization of science, "which encourage interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary practices such as lectures, courses, workshops, exhibitions, shows, exhibitions, festivals, competitions, challenges, activities that connect art and science and other dissemination actions for the general public or specific sectors.

To achieve these goals, the involvement of local actors is fundamental, such as state and municipal governments, universities, science, technology and education institutes, among others.

"All interested people can participate in the SNCT activities. Currently, universities and research institutions; public and private schools; institutes of technological education, Science and Technology centers and museums; scientific and technological entities; research support foundations; environmental parks, conservation units, botanical and zoological gardens; state and municipal secretariats of Science and Technology and of education; public and private companies; the media; governmental agencies; NGOs and other entities of the civil society", informed MCTI in a note.

The program for the 19th National Science and Technology Week can be accessed online.
